2023, A Year of Remarkable Awards for the Miami Beach Convention Center

Miami Beach, Fla. – November 29, 2023 – In the heart of Miami Beach, the Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) stands as a testament to excellence and innovation. Following a $640 million renovation in 2020, the MBCC has emerged as a beacon of sustainability and excellence in top-tier events management. This year, the venue has added a new chapter to its success story with prestigious awards and accolades.

The journey began in June, as Smart Meetings lauded the MBCC as a winner of the 2023 Smart Stars Awards. This award series, now in its 11th year, acknowledges the MBCC's commitment to providing outstanding service, amenities and customer satisfaction, reaffirming its status as a hospitality industry leader.

Facilities & Destinations recognized the MBCC as a "Prime Site Award Winner," commending its safety, sustainability, diversity and overall commitment to excellence. Moreover, ConventionSouth readers voted for the MBCC for the "Readers' Choice Award,” acknowledging its superior service, professionalism and amenities. These accolades collectively highlight MBCC's unwavering commitment to providing exceptional experiences for clients and attendees.

In September, the MBCC secured the 2023 Distinctive Achievement Awards. Association Conventions & Facilities Magazine honored the MBCC for its steadfast commitment to excellence in hosting events, setting a standard for hotels, resorts and convention centers nationwide.

In October, the MBCC was honored with the "Silver Stella Award," by Northstar Meetings Group, recognizing its unparalleled quality as the "Best Convention Center - Southeast Region." Simultaneously, The Wall Street Journal hailed the MBCC among the top 30 convention centers in the United States, affirming its place on the national stage.

MBCC's sustainable event management system first gained recognition with the “best practices” recognition as part of the 2023 UFI Sustainable Development Award program. This recognition recognizes MBCC's dedication to sustainable practices and responsible event management.

Exhibitor Magazine honored the MBCC with the "Centers of Excellence Award," for its exceptional facilities and services. This recognition underscores the MBCC's commitment to excellence, including facility and functionality, location and accommodations, service and execution, expansions and upgrades, and awards and industry participation.

The Miami Beach Convention Center was honored with the ULI Vision Awards – Project of the Year Award at the ULI - Urban Land Institute Southeast Florida/Caribbean awards ceremony on November 28th at the JW Marriott Marquis.  The extensive transformation not only revitalized the center but also its surroundings, creating green spaces as well as honoring the area's rich history.

Freddie Peterson, MBCC's general manager, expressed profound gratitude for the recognition received throughout the year, emphasizing his team’s collective efforts. “These accomplishments are a testament to the dedication of the entire MBCC team and venue partners OVG360 Venue Management, Sodexo Live!, Smart City Networks, Everlast Productions, First Class Parking and other invaluable partners, contractors and vendors.” Peterson extended kudos for the monumental support of the City of Miami Beach and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Adding to its accomplishments, the MBCC introduced two spectacular event spaces: Venu, tailored for elegant private events and upscale meetings, and Rum Room, a 1920s-themed restaurant offering a delectable tapas-style menu.

After its renovation, the MBCC now boasts a stunning 60,000-sq.-ft. grand ballroom, 500,000 sq. ft. of expansive exhibition space, a spacious grand lobby, sunlit pre-function areas, 84 breakout rooms and an 800-space rooftop parking facility. Crafted with sustainability at its core by renowned architecture and design firm Fentress Architects and Arquitectonica, the center proudly incorporates over 20% locally sourced recycled materials while diverting 38,000 tons of construction waste from landfills, achieving an impressive 96% recycling rate. This effort underscores the MBCC's steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship.

The MBCC is ADA-compliant and proudly holds the GBAC (Global Biorisk Advisory Council) STAR Facility Accreditation, acknowledging health and safety measures and the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver certification.
